David Burns, 57, passed peacefully into the arms of His Heavenly Father on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, surrounded by his loved ones. He died after a seven-week stay in a Lubbock hospital from complications following an aortic dissection.
 
He was born June 1, 1955 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Rev. A. E. and Kathleen Burns. He graduated from Pampa High School in 1973. He then served in the U. S. Army and later attended Angelo State University.
David married Marty Baker Vos on August 29, 1991.
 
At the time of his death, he was employed by IBM as a computer technician.David’s family was his top priority and he cherished every moment he spent with them. He was the life of every party, the guy who made everyone laugh and always had a joke to tell. He was totally devoted to his entire family, most especially to his Marty, living out their wedding song on a daily basis, “Everything I Do, I Do It For You.”
 
Having been raised in a musical family, he developed his love and talent for music at an early age and
participated in bands throughout his life, beginning in church and continuing into school, the Army and college. He loved to play just for fun, but really enjoyed playing in jazz bands, praise bands in various churches and for the Emmaus Community. David sang and played guitar on the praise team at First Christian Church for several years. He also enjoyed serving the Emmaus Community as a Lay Director and on the board. His computer skills were known to many, as well as the great conversations that came as a bonus with each visit.
 
He was preceded in death by his father Rev. A. E. Burns, nephew Tyler Burns and sister-in-law Jancy Baker.
 
David is survived by wife Marty of Midland, daughter Shanna Stormes and husband Jim of Ft. Worth, son Chad Vos and wife Sandra of Midland. He was Daddy Dave to five grandchildren-Elizabeth, Stephanie & Zachary Vos of Midland and Zoey and James Stormes of Ft. Worth, mother Kathleen Burns Campbell of Midland, brother Byron Burns and wife Lois of Wilson OK, Bobby Burns and wife Denise of Midland, sister Tricia Irion and husband Steve of Houston, sister-in-law Mary Hendricks and husband, Claude of Midland, brother-in-law Steve Baker of Corpus Christi and several nieces and nephews.
 
Family visitation will be held Friday, October 12 from 5-7pm at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland. A memorial service to celebrate David’s life has been scheduled for 10:30am on Saturday, October 13 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Sandra Fussell and Dr. Steve Schorr officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Fussell, Fred Schwiening, Carl Rogers, Kerry Mansour, Dennis Maeker, Mike Nance, David Carroll, and Ron Hopkins.
