Shannon Maureen (Hills) King Rutledge

February 14, 1955 – February 10, 1999

Shannon Maureen Hills King Rutledge, 43, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999. Services will be at 4 p.m. Friday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Nathan Hopson, pastor of Highland Pentecostal Church, and Dr. G.A. Roach, director of pastoral care at Northwest Texas Hospital, officiating.

Mrs. Rutledge was born and raised in Pampa. She was a cheerleader and 1973 graduate of Pampa High School. In 1975, she received her licensed vocational nurse certificate from Frank Phillips College and then earned an associate’s degree in nursing from Amarillo College in 1989. Mrs. Rutledge was a certified critical care nurse at Coronado Hospital in Pampa and at Northwest Texas Hospital. She also was a nurse for Dr. Laxman Bhatia in Pampa. She attended church at the Chapel at Northwest Texas Hospital and was active in Outreach Ministries from 1978 until 1985.

She married Tim Rutledge in January at Amarillo. She was previously married to Jack King.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Forrest King and Dennis King, both of Pampa; her mother, Majaunta Hills of Pampa; six sisters, Dietta Pope, Stephanie Rice and Majaunta Jr. McKean, all of Pampa; Dawn Traweek of San Antonio, Wendy Fruscella of Amarillo and Geralyn Kleffman of Fayetteville, N.C.; two brothers, Shaun Hills of Houston and Rocky Hills of Burke, Va.; and special friends, Sandy, Gilly and Dana Phelps, all of Amarillo.

Shannon will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Pampa.

The family suggests memorials be to a battered women's shelter of your choice or Suicide Hotline Prevention.
