Aleyce Dynette 'Dee' Bowen Neil

April 27, 1953 - October 3, 2020

Virgil and Dee Neil, of Pampa, passed away on October 3, 2020 in Amarillo within an hour of each other.

Services will be 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Kyle Ohsfeldt, pastor of Grace Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Livestream will be available at https://www.carmichael-whatley.com/page/live-streaming. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the family asks that everyone attending the funeral in person wears a mask.

Virgil was born on June 4, 1951 in Pampa to Joseph L. and Dotdee Brothers Neil. He attended school in Pampa before enlisting in the Army in June of 1968. Virgil served as a medical specialist during his time in the military and did 3 tours during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed hunting, making model planes, telling stories, and collecting guns. Virgil always wanted to pick on others and make them laugh.

Dee was born on April 27, 1953 in Pampa to Dub Bowen and Jane Yake Bowen Lowe. She graduated from Pampa High School in 1973. Dee enjoyed watching her grandkids play sports and the special Olympics.

Virgil and Dee were married on June 23, 1972 in Pampa and they were blessed with 5 children. They moved all over the United States during Virgil’s military career. Together they enjoyed fishing, spending time with family, traveling, and spoiling their grandchildren. They went to North 40 Settlers to drink coffee and visit with friends just about every day.

They were preceded in death by 2 children, William Neil and Renee Neil; Virgil’s parents and his sister, Nancy Hardbread; Dee’s father; her sisters, Tricia Lowe and Sheril Fields; brother-in-law, Fred Hild; and nephews, Matt Bowen and Nick Hild.

Virgil and Dee are survived by 2 daughters, Linda Van Buskirk and husband Mark and Dotdee Neil all of Pampa; son, JR Neil and wife Brandy of Panhandle; 6 grandchildren, Ethan Neil, Carter Neil, Cooper Neil, Adam Neil, Summer Van Buskirk, and Robert Van Buskirk; daughter-in-law, Raemona Neil of Pampa; Virgil’s brothers, Joseph “James” Neil of Pampa and John Neil of Victoria; Dee’s mother, Jane Lowe; her sisters, Donna Hild of League City, Sherry Singleton of Weatherford, and Tami Faulkner of Springtown; her brothers, Eddie Lowe of Madisonville and Bryan Bowen of Pampa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
